To be eligible for consideration of a Chevron Phillips Chemical President's Contractor Safety Award, a contractor company must be a Chevron Phillips Chemical 2015 Contractor Safety Excellence Award Recipient and must submit a two-page narrative. Based on the criteria, including outstanding safety accomplishments, one large company and one small company are selected to win this annual award.

The Chevron Phillips Chemical Contractor Safety Excellence Awards are presented annually to contractor companies that achieve superior safety performance while working for Chevron Phillips Chemical during the award year. Among many eligibility requirements, a contractor company must work a minimum number of cumulative hours in a calendar year at Chevron Phillips Chemical or affiliate facilities, and meet that year's Chevron Phillips Chemical corporate-wide combined (employee + contractor) total recordable incidence rate safety target. A minimum of 25,000 hours and no more than 50,000 hours is required to qualify for the small company category and a minimum 50,000 hours is required for the large company category.
