Reduce Our Product Carbon Footprint

key Issues

At CPChem, we continually strive to minimize the environmental impact of the products we manufacture and distribute. Circularity contributes to lowering product carbon footprints by reducing emissions attributed to feedstock sourcing and the end-of-life disposal of these products. Alongside our work to advance the circular economy, we are exploring additional solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and eliminate plastic waste throughout the lifecycle of our products. As outlined below, CPChem’s holistic approach to reducing its carbon footprint incorporates every facet of global operations.

Life Cycle Assessments

Safe and responsible plastic use and disposal is a necessary element of environmental stewardship. Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) help CPChem measure the potential impact of our products at every stage, from sourcing and processing to distribution, use, and end-of-life or recycling. LCAs produce valuable insight and detailed datasets for our products. LCA helps identify areas where we can reduce water and energy use, lower greenhouse gas emissions and lessen impact on the environment.

key Issues

We plan to use data from LCAs in our Portfolio Sustainability Assessment (PSA), an overview of our product portfolio's sustainability performance. This multiyear exercise involves in-depth systematic analyses of individual products to assess how they may affect human health and the environment.

key Issues

Emerging Technology

Innovation is pivotal in producing and distributing petrochemicals more sustainably. Our Climate Technology team investigates innovative technologies for carbon reduction strategies and studies how these solutions could be integrated into current and future assets. Sourcing renewable electricity, exploring opportunities for electrification and hydrogen firing and evaluating carbon capture solutions are several areas where CPChem believes technology has the capability to drive sustainable advancements. CPChem also instituted a technology watch program to evaluate the impact of emerging technologies in our pursuit of a lower-carbon economy.
