Preparing for startup
As Chevron Phillips Chemical prepares for the startup of its world-scale ethane cracker at the Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas, a newly-constructed, 16,000-square-foot control room is nearing completion and will be home base to operators and technical staff who run the unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Taking a peek
The control room will house a total of 17 offices, including operations control consoles, a process automation room, an operator staging room, a laboratory, two conference rooms and a training center equipped with an operations unit simulator. The IT room and rack room will serve as the hub of communication between the outside equipment and the inside controls.
Bill Turk, operations and maintenance manager for the USGC Petrochemicals Project, recently permitted a peek inside the new control room. "I'm really excited to see it completed," said Turk. "This is going to be a great location for our team to reside. We're looking forward to a good, safe startup and continued operations over the years."
