THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) announced today that the company will donate 12,500 pounds of polyethylene resin for the Society of Plastics Engineers' (SPE) Detroit Section toy donation effort that will brighten the holidays for over 30,000 children in the metropolitan Detroit area.
Thanks to Chevron Phillips Chemical's gift, each child will receive a blue plastic "PlastiVan,"" which is a toy vehicle that resembles a school bus, just in time for the holiday season. Local chapters of the United Way and the Lions Club will distribute the PlastiVan toys.
"This program will make a lot of difference to kids who might not get a lot of toys this holiday season,"" said Scott Dzurka, President of the Michigan Association of United Ways.
The combined efforts of all those involved in the donation program are made worthwhile by the smiles generated on the faces of more than 30,000 kids.
The name of the plastic toy - PlastiVan - honors the National Plastic Center's PlastiVans, which are actual vehicles that travel throughout the country teaching students, educators and the public about the chemistry, history, processing and environmental issues affecting the plastics industry.
